I've been searching this for a while now never really getting to the bottom of it. I like the idea of backing up into an encrypted image in case my hard drive gets ripped off etc, but what is the best way to do it to make the restore easier if the HD in my laptop fails?
I've learned that it's not possible to boot from an encrypted image, but does that really matter if just wanting to do a restore with disk utility in the event of failure? My computer's not that critical to me, I don't need to be up and running again that fast, no need to boot right away, would rather have the encryption.
Before I muddy the water further, I guess my question is, what does disk utility do if putting in an encrypted image into the source window? Will it take it? Will it ask for the password?
Until now I've been putting an unencrypted image inside an encrypted one thinking I could use another machine to break it out of there if need be thereby making it boot-able before completing a restore.
Any help to get me going in the right direction appreciated! Thanks.
