SD Card crashed my Mac and is now unreadable. :( Help.

So I just returned from a photo shoot in the caribbean and I took oogles of photos with my Nikon D40. This morning I took the SD and placed it into my card reader which initially read the card but as I clicked into file folder of the card my Mac gave me the slow cascading black screen followed by "Please Restart Your Computer". Now, after restarting the computer, the SD card is showing up as "Disk Unreadable". Some please tell me this has happened to them before and they were able to recover files. We're talking hundreds of photos ... Help.

Try reading it while it is plugged into the camera. There may be something wrong with the card reader.

r.j.s, I tried your recommendation and the camera says "The Memory Card needs to be formatted" which I would assume still means there is something on the card and it just can't be read properly. It can't be the reader either since I tried a different card and it worked. You think the actual SD itself is just faulty?

It may be faulty, or it may have just gotten corrupted.

If it KPs again, then I would say the card is no good.

Unfortunately, it seems that your photos might be lost ...
