SD Card drops off the face of the earth

I have a SD card to micro sd card adapter that is flush with my 2015 13" MacBook Pro. It is usually there with no problem. However since upgrading to macOS sierra I have found I have to run disk utility almost every time I wake up the machine to remount the drive. Is anyone else having this issue?
 
The only thing I seem to find about Sierra and sd card mounting problems, that I can find online, is to try to reset the SMC and the PRAM on your Mac.
