SD card slot not working well

I'm having a lot of trouble with this SD card slot of mine. I have a 4GB SDHC card that I need to get photos off of.
I always ejected my SD cards by dragging the icon to the trash and dismounting them before I pulled them out. This time was no exception.

I plugged in the SD card. The card read for 1 second, then it was "improperly ejected", then mounted again then ejected and so forth until the SD card slot no longer was able to read the drive. This all took 3 seconds.

I reset PRAM, rebooted, tried other SD cards, etc. with no luck.

Help!

Open up Console.app and then insert your SD card. Console should throw a message/error as to why it's ejecting the SD card prematurely.
