Is there a way to use an sd card with my MBP? I want to check the formatting on the card and prepare it for use in a Garmin nuvi 260w.

Thanks for your thoughts on this issue!

Mbp

I have an early 2011 MBP. The card slot is much larger than an sd slot. User Manual says it is an express card slot...?

Is there an adapter that enables sd card use in that slot?

Unless you are looking at some alien port I don't have the only slot on my 2011 MBP is for an SD card, but are using an SD card or a micro SD?

The OP has a 17" MBP which has an express card slot in place of an SD card slot.

I have a 4 G SDHC that fits my Garmin nuvi 260W GPS. I would like to check the formatting, etc., but my MBP appears to have no sd card slot.

It has a slot that measures about 1 1/4" located mid-left side of the MBP that is described in the Users Guide as, "ExpressCard/34 slot
Expand the capabilities of your MacBook Pro. Accepts 34mm ExpressCards."

So, if I have an sd slot, I can't find it.... Of course, there is the possibility that there is an adapter for an sd card that utilizes that slot...?

You will not have an SD slot as the express card slot replaced, and yes there are adapters as another poster said and I believe there is a link to a nice one somewhere in this thread.

Didn't see that posted anywhere, my bad all I saw was 2011 MBP.

You are correct in that it was not mentioned anywhere, but in a later post the op stated the manual listed it as an express card slot, by default that would mean the op has a 17" as they are the only ones to still have that port (a sorry spot for lots since it was dropped from the 15's after 2008.

Yeah again my apologies for some reason I had a brain fart and didn't make the connection between express card and 17 its been a long day already. So again I apologize for my ignorance in that regard. Cheers

Not to throw gasoline on the post, but I do have a MBP 15" late 2011 build.

Thanks for the adapter card holder link and for your thoughts on my concern re: sdhc

Thanks!!

I myself bought the SD slot was kinda big, but dah, they (apple) are telling you it's an SD Slot!!

Since we are not really getting anywhere:

Now you should know, what the ports you have are called.

You didn't say what type(physical size) SD card you have. Apple has a knowledge base article About the SD and SDXC card slot - this should help you with card sizes and what you need to do to insert the card in your system.
