SDXC Card Slot Uses

Ok, so the new 13" and 15" MBPs have the SDXC card slot. What would be the best uses for this card slot? Could it potentially be used as an SSD hard drive to boot the operating system off of?

I'd think that regular SD cards would be way to slow for that. I don't even know if the Mac would accept a bootable SD card. Probably would, but you wouldn't enjoy the experience. It serves as a great camera card reader, though.
