Seagate 5400.6 Incompatible with MBP?

The hard drive in my 2009 MBP recently crashed so I bought a 500GB Seagate 5400.6 to replace it. I installed the drive and loaded up the OS X DVD but it didn't appear in either the setup nor in disk utility. I took my Mac to the Genius Bar and they checked it out - they put in a Hitachi drive of the same model that comes with the MBP and it showed up fine, but for some reason the Seagate didn't. They then put the Seagate in a caddy to try it, and it showed up fine when plugged in by USB so it must be working.

Anyone got any ideas why my MBP can't see the Seagate HDD when it's plugged in by SATA?

EDIT: Got it sorted - took it to the Genius Bar and they found it was a malfunctioning SATA cable. They replaced it and now my MacBook Pro is working better than ever :-D
