Seagate as Back Up ?

I have a back plus I plan to use with iMac and Time Machine for back ups. Will it always show as mounted with the drive icon on my desktop? I want to make sure i am doing this part correct. Much thanks.

Sure will. One of the drives I use for backups on my iMac is a Seagate Backup Plus Drive. It always shows as mounted as long as you have it checked off to show in your Finder Preferences as I have shown in the sceenshots below.
