I'm looking at adding a third hard drive to my Early 2008 Mac Pro. The Mac Pro currently has 6 GB of ram, and I'm to upgrade it to either 12 GB or 16 GB within the week.
I'm torn between adding one of the new 1.5 TB Seagate drives or a Seagate Enterprise class 1.0 TB drive.
If I go with the 1.5 TB drive, I would make an existing 1.0 TB drive in my Mac Pro the system drive and the 1.5 TB drive would be a drive dedicated to storing video and photos. I would also move the Time Machine volume off the existing 1.0 TB drive to the 500 GB drive currently used as my system drive.
If I go with the 1.0 TB Enterprise class drive, it would be become my system drive, move the Time Machine volume off the existing 1.0 TB drive to the 500 GB drive currently in use as my system drive.
The difference in cost between the two drives is about $50 at an online retailer I plan to purchase from, so cost isn't a factor in my decision. I use my Mac Pro mostly for normal computer usage, some video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4, and future use of Aperture for family photos.
Am I going to notice any improvements in system performance with the Enterprise drive?
