I live in a remote area and my wife bought me a seagate expansion 3tb desktop drive that says compatible with windows xp, vista and 7... Is this compatible at all with an iMac running Mountain Lion 10.7.5??

I dont want to open the package and try it incase it doesn't work.

I know it should be a simple question but after ages googling it i couldn't find a definitive answer

Hello eleanoriver1,

I just found your question trying to find an answer for my problem. I have a 1TB segate expansion, it was working fine under 10.5.8, I was using it as a back up disc (with time machine) , after I upgrade to 10.8.2 Mountain lion, I can not see the disk anymore, ( the contents are there if I look them with a windows pr linux machine)

It is not in the list of compatible with mountaing lion on the Segate page http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/004622en

So...I don't know, If I would have the chance (that I do not have right now) I would not open it and cahnge it for some other disk. I'm sure it is possible but just to avoid the hassle
