I need to archive many terabytes of data and the cheapest options per GB are Seagate's Expansion Desktop and Portable 4TB.

I was leaning toward the Desktop but it's now EOL so I'm having another look at the Portable.

I assume the portable has a slower read rate, but as I won't be accessing the data very often this isn't much of a consideration.

Any other pros or cons to consider?

I should add that, because they are for archiving, the drives will be in storage 99.999% of the time. On the rare occasions they are in use the entire 4TB capacity will be getting scanned or rewritten. Would a desktop drive be more robust for this purpose?
