Seagate GoFlex Desktop 3TB mirror fail

I have 2 brand new 3TB GoFlex Desktop units that I am trying to Raid 1 together as a mirrored configuration using Disk Utility 11.5.2 on OS 10.6.8

When I try and create the Raid with the 2 slices, I get the following error message.

"Creating RAID set failed with the error:
POSIX reports: The operation couldn’t be completed. Operation not permitted"

Any suggestions are appreciated.
