Looking, for backup purposes with Time machine, at the Seagate 1TB Backup Plus portable HDD model STBW1000102 available in my local UK Apple store…..However, I have also noticed at UK Amazon the Seagate STBU1000201 which seems to me pretty much identical. Could anyone advise if I could purchase the STBU drive (some £30 cheaper!) for my needs, Time machine, Mac compatible etc. I Have the late 2012 iMac (27) with 1TB and 128 fusion.

Or are the two drives more different than meets the eye?

Thanks people.

It looks like other than the mac version being HFS+ format from the box, it's purely like a cosmetic change, one is blue, one is silver. I think the original mac go flex drives had faster spinning disks and FW800 connectors.

I'd just buy the cheaper one and format it in Disk Utility, it will be perfect for TM etc.

Yes.....that's what I was thinking. Cheaper drive and just reformat if necessary. Thanks Mike. :)
