Search not working in Mail

Still struggling to migrate to Sequoia. Latest problem is that search does not work in Mail. Just sits there. I am a long-time not-a-fan of Spotlight, so I have it throttled down to search only Mail & Messages and System Settings. This works fine on a Sonoma machine, but not on Sequoia. Is there some special way of holding the computer to make this work?

Never mind. A reboot made it all better.

I'm learning this about Sequoia - it reminds me of the Bad Old Days with Windoze where the answer to fix any of the myriad problems is the three-finger salute. macOS doesn't "just work" any more.

Same happened to me upon update to Sequoia 15.3.2 but also in both Mail and Messages.
Like you a reboot seems to have cleared it up.
