I was browsing some shady file-sharing sites yesterday in Safari and noticed that there was a new file on top of my Downloads stack. When I opened that folder in finder I saw the name of it:

searchEnhancementTool.safariextz

Definitely not something I clicked on, and I didn't run it. But my question is, could this have auto-run and infected my computer?

Nope. Drop it in the trash and move on. It's simply a Safari extension, based on that file extension, but it would have prompted you to install before it could do anything.

Thanks...was a bit nervous
