I have a main folder we will say called scans. These are all pdf's. Each month I make a new folder in that folder to break them up. So it would look like this...

Scans>2009-01>file.pdf

in this scans folder I have a lot of other folders! I need a way to search the main folder but also have search drill thru the recursive folders. Did I mention this is over a network? I set up the scans folder in sharing and set permissions. Great but couldn't access the recursive folders... So I command-I and set recursive in the folder permissions and properties. This works but I can not seem to find a way to search in these folders. I would like to open the shared folder "scans" and all of the month folders are there. But I would then also like to be able to search for files typing the name into the search box in finder. Every time I try it defaults to searching the macs drive and not the share.

I also scan from a differn't Mac then they are stored on. the way I have it shared seems to work fine for saving the scan to the network share from the scanning program! That was easy to do but I do not understand why the search does not work right. Does it take time to index or something bizarre like that?

Having this folder shared does it make security holes? What is the best firewall settings for this setup? Two other iMac will access one iMac basically it is the main machine while the others are terminals. They are linked by a Time Capsule in bridged mode to a 2wire router for outside world access.

I know I dumped a lot in one post but I would appreciate help!
