Ok, here is my regular "workflow" with the iPad.
I use Google Drive and the Documents (by Readdle) iPad app to sync specific folders. When I open Documents, it will download every file I have in the folder I selected, so that they are available offline. As a college teacher, I don't get a decent WiFi in every classroom, if I get some at all. So for me it is crucial that I can use my files without a connection.
For the most part, this setup work well since if I make a change to a file while offline, when my iPad get connected again, the "Documents" app will sync with Google Drive and upload the change (which then will sync with my iPhone and my Mac).
The only thing that bother me, is that I can export files to "Pages" to work on it, however doing so it create a copy in the Pages iCloud folder, so it get messy really really fast (and I have to manually create another copy to Google Drive, and manually erase the original)
In fact, since iOS 8 and extensions, it is possible to open Pages, and from the Pages app, open a file in Documents to edit it without moving it or create a copy. My modification are saved on my original file.
However, for some reason, I can access every files in the "Documents" app EXCEPT when they are part of a synced folder, which is exactly where all my files are.
So I thought that maybe I could use iCloud Drive instead of Google Drive. However, having tried many configuration (which are very confusing inside the "Documents" app) it seem that I cannot really get what I want :
- My files automatically stored locally on my iPad.
- Using a sync service to get them on all my devices, and sync the change from my iPad to the cloud.
- Accessible through app extensions in iOS so I can open Pages (or Keynote, or Numbers) and edit the files directly without having to create copies.
(Basically, I want an app that could work like Finder on iPad)
So, I am curious to see if someone knows an iPad app that could suit my needs.
Thank you !
