I reckoned I had a similar issue with my MBP, but since the startup chime wouldn't sound, the support technician couldn't run the test to see if it was covered under the NVIDIA program.

This guy wouldn't take no for an answer and successfully took Apple to court. Great to see the little guy win now and again!

My 2009 BTO 3Ghz MacBook Pro started crashing (kernel panic) so I took it in to Apple. The unit was over 3 years old so it was out of warranty/AppleCare. Genius checked over the log and spotted Nvidia mentioned twice. Apple replaced the logic board at no charge. In contrast to this article, mine did start and did everything but it would crash once a day. Happy outcome for me.
