Hello,
sorry in advance for the long text and my stupid questions, but I have no clue about external display connections. The last time I used one was a (S)VGA connector in my old PC days. I'll put all screenshots at the bottom to don't interrupt the text.
I would appreciate your help very much.
So, my second Display for the iMac is a "4K UHD" HP Omen 27" 144Hz 1ms, called OMEN 27K.
The highest available resolution is 3840x2160 so no real 4K compared to my iMac, but that doesn't matter. The iMac display with 4.5K has 4480x2520. Strangely System Information is even showing 5K (5120 x 2880 (5K/UHD+ - Ultra High Definition Plus).
I don't know what connection is the best way. It has two HDMI ports 2.1 (console support) and HDMI 2.0, 1x Display Port 1.4 Port and 1x USB-C (full-featured, no PD), whatever full featured means.
There are also those ports 1 x USB B (for KVM Data), whatever KVM means, 2x USB 3.2 (5Gbps/15W) and 1 x 3.5 mm Audio Out. That won't matter for this case I think.
I tried connecting it via HDMI (both ports) and USB-C with a Ivanky TB4-Dock that is connected to both TB ports on the iMac and claims to support several 4K and 6K displays, the ports labeled 6K look like USB-C. The ports labeld 4K are the two HDMI ports on the Dock.
The HDMI cable from the Dock shows 8K on it, the one from the display is just labeled "Ultra High Speed".
The USB-C cable that came with the Display is labeled "Full USB 3.2 Gen2 5A CM-CM, TP", the Display Port cable is labeled only with maybe serial or product numbers on one side of the sticker label "389G1878LAAFGK2ENT" and "2405003147" and on the other side "HP L57438-001 and "2405 (C)", might be 1.4 because the port supports it. There is nothing about cables in the product subscriptions.
Both HDMI cables 2.0 and 2.1 worked with that Dock. Not sure about USB-C.
But what didn't work at all was the Display Port connection on Caldigit TB4 Dock.
Whatever I used I always got only 60 Hz until I connected it directly with a TB4 cable to my iMac. Then I got 100Hz (it supports 144Hz).
Maybe that would also have worked with the Dock if I used that cable in the correct port, or the cable that came with the display in another port. I don't think it supports TB at all, because it is only listed in USB. So the non-TB port should do the same.
It was all such a hassle, that I can't remember everything.
Both Displays are set to 2560x1440 now, if I change the external one to the next higher resolution (3008x1692), what I like better, The HDR switch is gone in System Settings and I can't change the brightness anymore, but it stays at 100Hz.
100Hz is good (at least better than 60) and I don't know if I even need HDR, but I would like to change the brightness in the menu bar also with the higher resolution. Is this even possible. And can I get 120 or 144Hz somehow?
Thanks in advance for your help.

There is nothing connected to the Caldigit TS4 at the moment, but it is the newest Dock with a Display Port I have. I found a Display Port to Mini Display Port Adapter and a TB1 or 2 to TB3 adapter. I think that combination won't work anywhere, if I even need a Display Port connection. There is also another Display Port cable, but that might be 7 years old. So I didn't even try it. Only the one that came with the new display and that weird adapter combination on some port that is labeled 6K.
