Hello, I have an iPhone 7 and want to upgrade. First I wanted to get the 11 Pro but it's too expensive so I'll either get a second hand iPhone X 256GB or a new iPhone 11 128GB.

I always wanted the telephoto lens and the iPhone 11 doesn't have it. I also like the size of the X more than the 11. Is it stupid to get a second and X now as it's an older phone or will it work well in the future?

I'm looking to spend 500 dollars on the second hand X while the new iPhone 11 costs 1000 dollars in Europe.

You're probably better off getting a slightly newer Xs if there's a relatively large price difference between it and the 11 over there, camera is a bit better, newer hardware overall. On the other hand, one of the bigger differences between the 11 and any of the older phones is the battery life.

Is there a major difference between the X and the Xs? The Xs is definitively a bit more expensive second hand than the X.

The XS will have a “newer” and less abused battery. That alone should steer you towards a XS over a X. Camera sensor size increased slightly, newer processor, slightly increased battery life, increased water resistance, smart HDR, stereo video recording.

These are worth the extra cost.

but if you can find a qualcomm X it will have much better reception than Intel junk in the XS

I've seen X models with 95% Battery health so I would try to get one with good battery health if I get a X. The XS does seem better but if I'm buying second hand, I don't want to spend almost as much as an 11 would cost. Is the camera much better in the Xs?

I just bought a 1 month used XS 64 for 650€ In Germany. from what i saw the 256 is 50-70€ more
while the 11with your 128 storage goes for 849€.

i tried the xr and 11 and its just to big for handling imo. So do that before u buy

650 is pretty good but I definitively want the 256GBs. I'll see if I can find a cheap XS instead of an X, otherwise I'll just try to find a really new X with good battery health.

I'll try the 11 in the store. I have tried the 11 Pro and Pro Max in a store though, which I thought was too large to use with one hand, is the 11 similar to the Pro Max in size?

I’d go with the X (with a healthy battery) or spend the extra on the 11. The computational photography / hdr is much improved on the xs over the x but then improved once again with night mode on the 11. If you just take casual photos outdoors with good lighting though, the camera on the X is just fine.

I’ve narrowed it down to either getting a second hand X for around 500, getting a refurbished X for around 800 or getting a second hand XS for around 850. The refurbished phone would come with a 1 year warranty and a return period.

What? Your prices make no sense

Refurbished is more expensive than finding a second hand seller on a site like Craigslist.

I just bought a brand new iPhone XS for 750 dollars, 3 months warranty included! it was a great deal!

I think I'll set it up as new! Any chance to get the Apple Watch health data and old wallet coupons synced without restoring from iCloud backup?

I’d go with X given your wants and needs

The screen on the X is still one of the best in the industry and the stainless steel band feels great, so you’re still getting a quality product that will feel slightly more premium in your hands, more so in my opinion that the 11 does.

The X is not slow today and runs like butter on iOS 13. You also are getting the telephoto lens that you want.

The big thing for me are the prices differences you mentioned. That makes the iPhone X better value...I don’t think the 11 is worth 2x more, especially not the 500 vs 1000 range you mentioned. That’s significant

Edit: just saw you went with a XS that met both price points in the middle. Fantastic purchase and a very good price for the XS. Worth it IMO. Good choice!

Refurbished is more expensive, but it’s a safer bet, purchasing from a secondhand seller on Craigslist, it’s risky with sketch sellers, involves possible fraud, etc. At least refurbished offers a warranty, Apple certified parts and their customer service.

I just "upgraded" from an X to 11 because it was essentially free (work had a credit they let me use plus the sale of my X). I posted my thoughts here.Going From X to 11. Overall, there is a big upgrade to on the camera and to battery life from the X. While the phone is only a bit faster, the 11 will likely keep purring a year or two more than the X. I too like smaller phones (I had a 7 plus and hated it because of the size), But I think the size of the 11 is fine and the aspect ratio is more natural. The screen on the X is a bit sharper and more detailed. The difference is real but not dramatic. I think overall the 11 is a better phone and will last longer. But if there is a big price difference, I couldn't give you a hard sell on the 11 vs the X. They are both great phones

I currently own a 11 Pro Max, and an iPhone 11 too.

#1) with the power of the A11, or A12 still being overkill and lightning fast

#2) AMOLED displays are phenomenal at showing perfectly even edges without distorting the notch or corners and having even backlight across the screen with excellent pitch black blacks!

#3) The build quality of the X/XS/11Pro is incredible and a very solid super premium feel and while being really durable.

just imagine you could beat and gouge a iPhone 11 to bits with a iPhone XS lol

Just upgraded to an X from a 7. Got myself a brand new 256gb X with full Apple warranty here in the UK for £450. I think that’s very good value for money for such a lovely built phone. There are currently deals on the 11’s right now with £100 cashback but still , prefer the form factor and oled of the X. Difference in price between this and the 11 128gb is £230. Want to give this a go for a while and probably wait and see what comes out next year.
