Second hand iPhone

I've been offered a second hand iPhone for a good price. The owner was given it by Apple to review and had a 30 trial usage.
I already use the AT&T network with my regular cell phone so is it going to be easy to change the iPhone to my number? The current owner has already activated the phone. Do I just insert my SIM card or is it more complicated than that?

The seller is a good friend and is trustworthy.
