Hi there,
I recently equipped my mid 2009 MBP 13" with a second drive (SSD in optical bay). The first drive is a 500 GB HDD. A few days ago my HDD wasn't recognised anymore (I had 2 partitions on it: 1 bootcamp and 1 HFS with music and stuff).
At first I thought the HDD was just broken, but for some reason its working fine in an external case. I was able to format it to get rid of the bootcamp partition (which I think was the source of the first error) and then put it back to the internal connector. However, when I try to write to the created partition (HFS again), I am asked for authentication, which is already weird and never happened to me before. I go on and put in my username and password and then I get an "unexpected error -50"... Then I thought I might just format it again, now that the HDD is internal. But Disk Utility keeps telling me that the disk can't be unmounted and nothing is possible.
I already tried repairing the partition/disk within OSX, from recovery partition and whatever. BTW, I'm using OSX 10.9...
So I think its obviously not the HDD because I tried the same procedure with another HDD (exact same model) and I get the same errors. I also think it's not the HDD/SATA-cable because I tried the SSD on it and that works fine...
I'm really not new to computers but this problem baffles me completely. I have no idea what to do...
Can anybody help?
