I'm having trouble getting a mac connected to a time machine backup drive. Here's the trouble: I have an external HD (WD Elements, if it matters) connected by USB 3 to Mac 1. On Mac 1, File Sharing is turned on and the ext HD is selected for sharing. Under "advanced options" for the ext HD in the sharing pane, "allow guest users" is checked, as is "Only allow SMB encrypted connections" and "Share as a Time Machine backup destination." Under permissions, I have "Everyone" set to "read and write" for the ext HD.
Mac 2 is on the same network as Mac 1. In Time Machine preferences, Mac 2 can see the ext HD and recognizes it as a possible time machine destination. However, when I attempt to select it, Mac 2 prompts me to input a username and password to connect to Mac 1 (and therefore its attached HD). If I select "Guest," access is denied. Do I need to create a user account for her on my mac?
Edit: So i figured out to create a sharing-only account for her and did so. Now her mac can connect to mine, but it still cannot select the ext HD for time machine. I've tried adding her sharing account to the list of accounts with permissions to read and write to that ext drive but it's still saying on her mac that she doesn't have permissions. I'm at a bit of a loss.
