Second monitor not changing desktops

I have a second monitor connected to my iMac. I started using multiple desktops [formally spaces]. The second monitor does not switch between different desktops. Is there a setting I am missing?

So you mean that you have to switch spaces on each monitor separately?

Look in System Preferences, Mission Control. There is a setting for "Displays have separate spaces."

Don't forget, you have to create spaces before you can use them. ctrl-uparrow when active on the display you want to add spaces on and then click the + at the top right to add however many you want.
