I have a thunderbolt display, and I am looking to get another monitor that would sit next to the Thunderbolt and act as a second monitor. Thunderbolt display is very high resolution and I have to pull it closer to really see the text clearly. This second monitor will be a little further away, so I need something with less resolution, but still sharp. Any recommendations?

Or should I get a second TD to really have everything be even?

Depending on your actual usage, I'd say the Dell U2412M could be a good fit. Here's Why:

  • It's a relatively cheap monitor
  • Good, sharp picture quality (LED backlight & IPS)
  • Good resolution (1920x1200)
  • Quite a few inputs/ ports
  • Adjustability & rotation support

They also get quite a few positive reviews, including here on MacRumors.

The U2312M has similar specs but is 1920x1080 (16:9).

I think you need glasses. Seriously.. TBD is high res and because of that, you should see the text more clearly not the other way around.

Having to move closer to the screen to see stuff is just a symptom of myopia - nearsightedness. Have it checked out, invest in glasses / contacts and then review your monitor situation again.
