Secondary Display Dims When Connected

Recently I tried using a LCD television to watch a movie off my MBP, while the display was easy to format and connect, the brightness was very low. I tried to brighten the TV by switching things like the resolution and colour, and after every alteration, the screen would brighten to regular brightness quickly and then turn dark again.

I put it down to being the TV, but the next day after the same thing happening with a projector I new it must be my MBP.

Both times I connected with my DVI cord and used the display settings in system preferences.

Why is this happening?

I've tried another TV, a 50" plasma, and it works great! Though it's a far more advanced TV in it's programing.

Shades would be the problem, trust me, I've seen it firsthand.

He won't be troubling me anymore. Or anyone else.
