Hello. The screen on my Pro appears to have died, although I can still use the computer with a secondary monitor. I have tried some things I read online re the dead screen to no avail. This particular thread, though, is not about the dead screen but about a consequential problem. I have a word (word 2011) file containing sensitive information that I have protected with a password. Before my laptop screen died, whenever I would open the file, I would get prompted for the password twice - one of the prompts would appear on my laptop screen, the other on my secondary screen. I do not remember the order (whether I was first prompted on the laptop screen or on the secondary screen). The problem now is that I do not even see the first prompt for password entry - perhaps it is "presented" on the now dead laptop screen. This means I cannot access the file since I cannot enter the password. Is there some sort of "trick" that could help me here - for example, a keyboard shortcut that would "activate" the password entry text box (in the sense that one normally has to activate a text box by moving the mouse into the text book and clicking)? If I knew the text box was "active", I could type in the password and perhaps be on my way. It may be important to say that I am experiencing some problems with Word as well as this password entry problem. And those problems only started when my laptop screen died (seems like this cannot be a coincidence). For example, word "hangs" when I open certain files (not password protected). You should also know that about a month ago I spilled a thick liquid on the keyboard but it seemed there was no damage from that. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

From your description I am guessing your monitor set not set to Mirror. Can you go to System Preferences > Display > Arrangement and click "mirror displays"? Then everything that appears (or would appear) on the built in display should appear on the external display.

Thanks for the suggestion. The monitors were indeed NOT set to mirror. But when I activated "mirror display", the external monitor also went dark - both monitors dark. So I had to force a restart. It appears, then, that activating the "mirror display" function causes the external monitor to "mirror" the dead state of the laptop monitor. Thanks, though, for the suggestion.
