Section breaks and page numbers

Newbe here, I have a document with section breaks, the problem is that the page numbering in the footer restarts after each section break. how do i continue page numbering from the beginning of the document to the end without restarting again throughout the document?
I have ticked the "Link to previous section" but that excludes page numbers and there is no formatting option anywhere to be seen that would say "continue page numbering"

Sorry, thought about it after i posted my msg. mac desktop, don't know what os as it will not tell me what it is, using word and again don't know what version because it won't tell me that either. (I am a Microsoft user and used to its logic).

Found out what the problem was, the document had been created by who knows with what and converted who knows how many times so it must have become corrupted some way. I copied and pasted the document contents to a new fresh doc and re-created the footer and all is good now. thanks for your help.
