Hi there,
I think i Have secure deleting on, on my Mac OS X 10.5.7. It takes a good 10mins to delete like only 200 files (relatively small, like picture/music/document files).
I don't remember how I turned this future on, but how can I turn it off? Its really annoying how long it takes to delete something!!

Thanks!

The only secure deleting I know of is going into finder and selecting "Secure Empty Trash." To secure delete, you have to do that every time. Is that what you're talking about?

It's easy to fix.

Just go to Finder Preferences. Then under the "Advanced" tab uncheck the bottom item. "Empty Trash Securely".
That should fix your problem.

Terry

The secure empty trash function in the Finder does a 7 pass erase.

The terminal commands are:

"srm -rvfs " for a single pass erase.
"srm -rvfm " for a 7 pass erase.
"srm -rvf " for a 35 pass erase.
