Secure Erasing Bootcamp Partition?

I have a rMBP with Windows 8 installed via Bootcamp. I'd like to do a clean install of Windows 8.1 and in the past on my PC's, I have always done a secure erase of the SSD as this supposedly restores performance to the SSD. I'm unsure of how this would work, or if it would work on a bootcamp partition. Would I have to wipe the entire drive and reinstall MacOS first? Does anyone have any experience with this?
