I am the webmaster for a school system and have had several instances where Mac users cannot read our lunch menus, which are provided in PDF format.
The menu was created in LiveCycle and set up so that they could be filled out by the head of our food services department. It was set up as a form so she could enter the items, then a security policy is placed on the PDF form so it could be posted to the website. We did not want to leave the form as editable, as this would prevent any tampering with the file.
When I was first contacted about the issue with Macs, I was informed that the text was showing up as a series of letters and numbers, not English at all. After some research I embedded the fonts to the file and had no further issues.
The second and third time Mac users were informing me that the entire file was blank. Both have updated Adobe Reader. As for the security policy, the attributes chosen were printing enabled, but text could not be selected.
Has anyone ever heard of this issue before? Is there a better way to keep a form PDF from being edited without using the security policy? I would greatly appreciate any help or advice and will provide more information as it is needed. Thanks for your time!
