Security and Backing up - Your opinion

Hey guys,
Just wanted your opinion on something. I've got a MacBook Pro that is passworded (the user account) and currently have time machine running every now and again on my external backup drive. Because I do take my notebook around I was interested using the feature FileVault to protect my data incase it does go missing however time machine doesn't run with FileVault.

What do you guys do when it comes to security and backing up data? Do you use FileVault and manually backup your files on an external drive or do you use time machine without the security of FileVault?

Actually, TM does work with FileVault, but you have to log out of your account for it to work.
