Every site I visit where I have to log in (Paypal, Banking, even Myspace), I get this message:

Secure Connection Failed

signin.ebay.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate will not be valid until 1/7/09 7:00 PM.

(Error code: sec_error_expired_certificate)

* This could be a problem with the server's configuration, or it could be someone trying to impersonate the server.

* If you have connected to this server successfully in the past, the error may be temporary, and you can try again later.

Or you can add an exception…

what is going on? I really need to check my bank account but this seems sketchy.

What browser? Paypal works fine in Safari 3.2.1(latest). No such warning.

Check your Network settings to see if your DNS don't have strange settings.

Looks like you're using Firefox. Firefox recently (a relative word) improved their certificate checking and is more secure (relatively speaking). It's really a fault of the sites. They simply don't realize their certificates are expired or whatever else that is causing it. I haven't come across the message in a while, but I believe Firefox will let you get around it and accept the less secure-ness that it is detecting.
