Security update 10.3.9

I downloaded the latest security update from apple today. After restarting, I can't connect to the internet. There doesn't seem to be an ip address associated in the preferences.

My modem and airport is fine since my windows machine connects fine over the home network. Any suggestions to get this going again? First time an update has done this to me.

I'd unplug/shut down everything (modem, router and computer) for thirty seconds, reconnect it all and power it all up again as a first attempt at getting it working.
