Astonishing. Presumably the resolution will go up eventually, or is that limited by the density of the nerves in the tongue? Still incredible.
No matter how many times I see the title of this thread in the forums, I think it says, "Sex with your tongue".
I wonder if you attached this to a person who could see if they would effectively gain a "third eye."
Combining sight and sex with your tongue would make for an interesting combination....

sadly this device will only help people who lost their sight later after birth. Mostly only like cases like the guy in the article because people blind at birth or at a very early age brains are not able to do the things required to process sight.
that's cool but I bet it will be very expensive as most things for blind people are. no way I could get it for my wife.

It's like having a flashlight while digging through a cave.
Truly an amazing discovery and an amazing piece of technology. The brain is an incredible machine.
But for the majority of the blind people, they don't actually foot the bill for those kinds of technologies. Insurance (if you're really lucky) and governmental agencies (vocational rehabilitation agencies mostly) pay for most of it.
I don't know your wife's situation, but it's worth looking into.
