My Gear:

  • Computer A (Personal): Mac Mini M4 (Base model).
  • Computer B (Work): Dell Latitude 5420 (Has Thunderbolt).
  • Monitors: Dual Monitors (currently have DP to USB-C cables).
  • Peripherals:
    • Logitech MX Mouse & Keyboard.
    • External Hard Drive (Must be shared).
    • Audio: Focusrite 2i2 Interface + XLR Mic (Must be shared/switchable).
What I want to achieve:I am looking for a setup that allows me to easily switch my peripherals (Audio, Drive, Mouse, Keyboard) between the two computers, but I have a specific requirement for the displays:

  1. Flexible Display Modes: I need the ability to run three different screen configurations depending on my workflow:
    • Mode A: Both monitors showing the Mac (Extended Desktop).
    • Mode B: Both monitors showing the Dell (Extended Desktop).
    • Mode C: One monitor showing the Mac and the other showing the Dell simultaneously (Split Screen).
  2. Peripheral Switching: I need a single button (or simple method) to move my Mouse, Keyboard, External Drive, and Audio Interface to whichever computer I am currently focusing on.
  3. Audio Stability: Since I am switching a bus-powered Audio Interface (Focusrite), I need a solution that handles power stability well to avoid disconnects or crackling.
The Challenge:I realised that a standard "All-or-Nothing" KVM switch might force both screens to switch together, preventing me from doing "Mode C" (Split Screen). I am looking for the best way to wire this up to get that flexibility.

Can anyone help guide me to the right solution?
