Looking at upgrading from my 2014 macbook pro to a more modern device. Currently use it as a general laptop, plus for gaming, computational work and some machine learning, which will likely increase in the near future. I was looking at a new M2 Pro with 12/19 cores and 32gb ram for about $2400 vs M1 Max with 1tb SSD, 32gb ram for $2500 vs M2 Max with 32gb ram for $2600. My question really is if there is a big enough difference between M1 and M2 Max, considering the extra cost is about $100 or if there is a negligible difference. Any thoughts are appreciated!

M2pro.
Get 32gb of RAM if you're sure you need it (otherwise, 16gb is probably enough).
I'd get the 1tb SSD.
