I'd like to get a 1 Terabyte external hard drive to use with my MacBook Pro. I'd like this to be a Firewire drive because, well, you're reading MacRumors so you know why Firewire is preferable to USB.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I'm looking for the usual characteristics: reliable, quiet, fast, and of course inexpensive!

TheBuffalo from NewEgg looks pretty good, but I've seen mixed reports about some of their other products, especially from Mac users.

I've have good experience with OWC. If you dig down into the specs on a particular drive that interests you it will tell which manufacturer and model of drive is being used.

I vote for the WD Mybook Studio 1 TB. It comes with FW800, USB, and eSATA so its got all three interfaces. I own the 1TB version, and picked it up on sale for 125 dollars just recently at Dell. The transfer rates have been good and it comes with a 5 year warranty (and also complements my unibody mbps/acd setup nicely :apple:)
