Hi everyone,
After much searching and quite a bit of money spent on various apps (without success) I have decided to ask the good folks at MacRumors for help.
Both myself and my fiance are nurses, I work in A+E (ER) while Rachel works in Paediatrics. We both work shifts. I don't know about nursing shift work in the states but here in the UK we don't work to any kind of shift pattern like the Police or Fire Brigade do (for instance my brother-in-law, a policeman, knows what shift he is working two YEARS from today). So basically, from one month to the next we have no idea what we are working until our rota has been finalised and printed. Sometimes we get eight weeks worth of rota, sometimes only four.
At the moment we use the Calendar apps on our iPhones, Macs and iPads along with iCloud to ensure that we are always as up to date as we can be with each others shifts. I share my "Work" calendar with Rachel and she shares hers with me. That way, as soon as I enter my shifts into my iPhone I know that Rachel gets them on her iPhone, and vice versa.
The problem lies in actually entering the shifts however. To be blunt, on the iPhone it's a major pain in the arse. What I need is to be able to define a set number of shifts in a template and then just assign those to each day(s) as required, and the built in Calendar app doesn't allow me to do this.
I have found an app called Shift Worker that allows me to define what my shifts are i.e. Night Shift, start time 1900, end time 0730 the following day, location, North Tees A+E. Day Shift, start time 0700, end time 1930, location, North Tees A+E. Late Day Shift, start time 1030, end time 2300, location, North Tees A+E. Night Shift One Life, start time.....blah blah you get the picture. These are then stored as my shifts and on the main "Month" screen I can just drag the icons to the days to assign the shifts. Unfortunately, Shift Worker doesn't then share this with the main Calendar app, so the shifts are not shared between myself and my Fiance.
What I'm looking for is an app where I can define the shifts and assign them as in Shift Worker, but an app that then shares/copies the information over the Calendar so it can be not only shared with Rachel, but so that it also seamlessly migrates across to my various other Apple devices.
Does anybody know if such an app exists?
Thank you for taking the time to read my lengthy post, I'm sorry if I've rambled a bit, I've just finished a night shift!
Thanks in advance.
Alistair
