To answer your question the case can work with a screen shield. However, it has to be really thin and not of the glass variety (think film). The edge of the case covers a small portion of the glass so you have to make sure your shield is centered on it or go with a "case friendly" protector that are cut smaller.

Aside from that the case is great. I've had one for each model starting with the 3G and all of them keep the phone looking new.

How well does the case hold up ? Does the matte Back stain at all or peel off ? Do u have one for ur 5s ?

The case holds up well. After some time the coating will begin to wear off.

I've been using this one since the 5 was new and it's still doing well with the 5S. But after a year and a half there are places where the coating is starting to get thin. Mostly at the top where the clasp for the holster holds onto the phone. It seems normal after using it everyday.
