He's only in it for the money and that MBP sitting there is what's called a "placement ad". Dell does it as well.

I completely agree. Same thing with all these other advertisements, like the coke vs pepsi deal. Most of these celebrities don't care, they're doin it for the money (I can't blame them, especially if you're being offered millions).

unless their strategy changed Apple does not do ad placement.

Then their strategy has changed. I've watched full seasons of various shows go from a Mac one year to a PC the next and back.

Examples are 24,Ghost Hunters, CSI. etc..

"Even television networks that depend on advertising dollars to stay in business know that it can be useful to ditch the interruptions and present a show without ads from time to time. The ABC network did it for "Gideon's Crossing" in 2000 and for "Alias" in 2001. FOX did it for its hit series "24" in 2002."

Apple laptop computer on "24"

..."So to now discover that Seinfeld has appeared on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm" with a MacBook Pro craftily centered on his desk is to experience something akin to a kitchen knife being sharpened upon one's spine by a recently fired busboy."...

That's good to know, because I always base my IT purchasing decisions on Hollywood stars.

They are also help me decide which religion to choose.

As well as who to vote for.

We all know that Hollywood stars are, by virtue of their fame, some of the smartest people on the planet.

True. Paris Hilton is top notch in the intelligence department.

Didn't his apartment almost always have a Mac in it? I just re-watched all the seasons of Seinfeld recently, and I remember seeing Macs on his desk on the show all the time. The 20th anniversary Mac, older ones as well.

Don't forget they also decide your political voting habits.

EDIT: damn, I was beaten to it.

i was thinking the same thing, all the way back to the mac plus...

A mac is "safe" to display

You guys don't get it. Hollywood is very "left" in their thinking and don't want to piss anybody off. Showing the underdog Mac is the PC :)D) thing to do and it's what they do best.

It's a neutral device.

Show something with HP, Lenovo or Dell on the lid and you open up a can of worms.

They show macs because most of Hollywood uses Macs in production. And the product placement fee, if you think anything is in a movie or tv show, just because then you are wrong. It has become a line item on many movies budgets, product placement, from computers, to cars, airlines, hotels, resorts, city locations, drinks, food, clothing, everything has become an ad space. I think its funny, one season of 24, the "good guys" used Macs and Mac Monitors the bad guys used PC's, and this is on Fox no less . :D

That's interesting. Entourage must REALLY support Apple then.. iMacs and MBPs are all over the place in every single season.

I know that Apple's name appears in the credit for House. Surely they don't do that because they like Apple.

This is (probably) what happens.
1. Computer is needed in scene
2. Prop guys find nearest computer
3. Computer turns out to be a mac that the director is using for keeping his schedule (or something)
4. Computer is on screen

Obviously, if this is a major TV show or a Michael Bay movie, there might be product placements, and some prop masters probably have some computers lying around if they're used often enough, but otherwise, they'll just take whatever's closest.

unless their strategy changed Apple does not do ad placement.

whether apple says they use that strategy or not, they do do it. have you ever watched the series chuck (everyone uses an iPhone) or CSI (all macs) etc etc.

You are kidding yourself if you think producers only put those in the show because they look pretty:rolleyes:

EDIT: after reading what some of you said, I am further convinced APPLE DOES pay for placement. Why would the sries chuck do up close views of iPhones EVERY EPISODE unless they're getting paid for it??? Your explanation of just having an apple product on hand doesn't make any sense.
