Select where to download file

Hi I have tried to find the answer but am probably searching wrong. Can somebody please tell me how to fix this. When I download a file it automatically goes to my download folder, I DONT WANT THAT. How can I set it like on a PC to choose which folder it should download to...on a file by file basis?

It depends on what you are using to download the file; most browsers have an option to choose the download directory. In Chrome, it's Preferences-> Under the Hood.

sorry I forgot to say that I am using Safari. Under the preferences for safari it gives me the option to choose where to download, but it annoys me that every time I click to download a file all I can do is have it go to this single location, then have to move it later. Thanks for the help!

In Firefox you can have it ask every time. That doesn't help you if you want to keep using Safari, but it's something to consider.

In Safari: right click link > Download Linked File As...
