Selecting home pod as speaker for Apple TV

While I can select our homepod as the speaker for our Apple TV, I need to do this every time that I turn on start the Apple TV? Is there a default setting that I am missing or is this the way it will be. It takes many steps to go back and select audio in settings?

You can swipe down from the top to select audio output.

or on the home screen, press and hold play. a new menu will pop up.
