Hi all,
I am an OS X newb (i come from a windows background). I am having trouble unzipping a file to a specified location. I navigate to the zip file in Finder, then I double click it to unzip it, but it just unzips in that same directory. Right clicking the zip file doesn't give me any options either.

Can someone tell me the correct way to unzip a file in OS X?

Thanks in advance.

The correct way is to download the zip file in Safari. It unzips it automatically to the browser's set folder for downloads.

That is the "correct" way.

Try using Stuffit Expander if you want to be prompted for where to unzip to.

I see, I was hoping to not use any 3rd party software to do this trivial task.

So I would have to upload my zip file to some server and then set Safari's folder for downloads to my location, then download the zip file?

For the amount of time it would take to select where to unzip something to, you could simply move the unzipped (or zipped) file to that location. I imagine that is why that option doesn't exist.
