Selective transferring of data to new MBA from BlackBook help!

Hi all,

So I just got a wonderful and shiny new MBA (yay, woo etc) and I want to transfer some of the files from my old BlackBook.

I've been using an external hard drive and Time Machine to back up my old laptop but as happens, it's got rather cluttered over time...

And this being a nice, new laptop I kinda want to keep it 'fresh' and uncluttered... if that makes any sense...

So basically I'm looking for some suggestions as to how to pick and choose the applications and files that I want transferred as well as all my music and photos (iTunes and iPhoto).

Oh, and it's not as though I'm short of space either, my old Mac had a 180 Gb hard drive and this Air has 256

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I want to know, too! (also transitioning from black macbook to macbook air.) I've looked all around and I can't seem to find a guide about how to migrate selectively.
