I just got a macbook pro w/lion. The computer did not connect to the internet right the box. The problem a self assigned ip address.

So far i've.
1. rebooted the computer
2. turned aiport on and off.
3. rebooted the router.
4. renewed dhcp (both with and without making a new location)

Any suggests??? So far I haven't seen anyone complain about this while running Lion.

Set it for Auto dhcp

Right out of the box is the way all MBP's will start (Auto DHCP).

OS X continues to have this problem with some MBP's. Mine did that for 3 months and then it went away.

There are countless threads about this problem in Leopard, Snow Leopard and Lion both here and on the Apple support forums unfortunately. No one solution is out there, which sucks.

self assigned ip

Thanks for responding guys. But all those threads weren't helping.

I did set it for auto dhcp but it did not work.

Do you guys have any other suggestions?

I doubt that the problem is with your Mac. It sounds like DHCP is not enabled or is mis-configured on your router. One way to tell for sure is to go somewhere else that has WIFI and see if you connect up fine.
