I might be able to sell my 16” MBP for $2100 cash. 2.3 8 core i9, 32gb, 1tb ssd, 5500m 8gb, AppleCare+ til Dec 2022

not planning on picking up a new mac. I have an old 2015 15” MBP (with AppleCare+ still active) that does everything I need it to. What do you guys think? I originally bought the Mac because I thought I’d be future proofing with it, but now that Apple silicon is here I feel I should get rid of it and buy an M2X or M3X in a couple years once my 2015 pro really starts showing its age. Appreciate your guys input

Sold for $2100 at a Starbucks. Confirmed the money wasn't counterfeit, he confirmed it passed Apple Diagnostics & wasn't iCloud locked. Wish I would have gotten more since I paid $3500 for it, but grateful I was able to still get a good chunk of change. I miss it, I'll be honest... though I really love that glowing Apple logo of my 15" MBP. Wish Apple would revert back to that

How did you manage to have/get AC+ on a 2015 MBP?

and I think you got a good deal on your 16

it was bought in 2017 as a refurb for my dad, and then when the warranty expired in 2020, I was given the option of renewing it on a yearly basis from Apple! they do that now. my dad actually dropped the MBP and messed up the screen and decided to just buy a new Mac because he forgot he had AppleCare, and gave me the Mac to see what I could do with it. This all happened in the 30 day window period to renew the AppleCare+ and so I happily paid the warranty renewal (was around $100 IIRC for the year, maybe less?) and then sent it off to Apple for a warranty claim. They ended up replacing the screen & the top case so I got a new screen & battery :D

Definitely feel the AppleCare+ is worth it.

Note: I did tell my dad he didn't need to buy a new computer. but he wanted the smaller 13" Pro anyways, and loves the battery life of the M1. So we're both happy! And definitely helps me sit on that $2100 waiting for that M3X or whatever...

As an aside, I think I may buy an OWC Aura X2 1TB for it to give it a speed boost and bump up that 256 GB, which, even with iCloud Drive, is not very much

Thanks, that explains, cause when my 2017 iMac ran out of AC+ Apple hadn’t started that new policy yet, happened a few months later.
M1 Macs are Phantastin, I traded my 2019 15 MBP for a M1 MBA and am extremely pleased!
Edited, it’s a 2017 iMac 🤔

my dad actually bought this MBP in 2018 as a refurb, not 2017. just looked at the AppleCare agreement. I told him to buy the 2015 model and not the 2016-2017 model MBP because at that time the keyboards were horrendous and he likes to eat around his computer. Glad those days are over!

I sold my MBP 16, i9 2.4GHz, 32GB RAM, 2TB SSD, 5500M 8GB, no Applecare+ for $2325 back in June, also thinking that it was better to unload before the new M1X MBP comes out. The constant whining of the fan drove me nuts.

Now back to a silently powerful home-built PC with a Ryzen 5950x, 64GB RAM, and RTX 3090 :D!

I could try and sell my 16", too, but I'm pretty worried my 13" late 2013 won't cope with the Logic work I'm doing at the moment. Nothing too fancy, but hey, it's 8 years old. Funny thing is, I actually already cleaned up the late 13" for sale. Anyway, if the low power fix in Monterey helps to eliminate the fan noise while using my external screen, I might just keep it.

$1,400

This thing has been for sale for a few months. The town is local to me. If you can get $2,100, take it.

Edit: I see that you made the sale.

Wow, what a shame for whoever is letting it go for $1400. It's a very strong Mac and I miss it to be honest! That being said, despite missing it - don't regret selling it when weighing it all out.

I dont believe the 1,400 price. something must be wrong with it.
wow a $1400 loss thats insane. so glad I returned the i9 for an apple refurbished i7. personally I'll keep mine until the M2X comes out and then ill buy the M1x at discount to balance these losses.

There's a bad pixel in the screen.

I do see some insane offers in my local Craigslist. Usually what happens when I send an email is that they are already gone. Some people just want to get rid of hardware and the price isn't that big a deal if it's already paid for itself.

I was given an option to renew my AC+ yearly on my 18 15" but it was close to $200 so I declined it. Hopefully the new 16" is actually good and comes out soon.

I think you made an excellent decision. Glad the transaction went smoothly.

Most times it's not worth taking a bath to upgrade to a new macbook. However, that was because in the past you'd get +5-7% increases per year and barely anything was new.

If there's any time in history to splurge a little and make the big jump to these M1/M1X models this is it. Probably as big or a bigger leap than sandy bridge in 2011.

True. It would be a huge jump. But now that I'll be jumping from a 2015 2.2 GHz i7 quad core to what will probably end up being an M2X or M3X, the jump will be astronomical. Right now this 15" MBP is purring away on Monterey. Just picked up a 1TB Aura X2 SSD by OWC for a little speed bump and more storage to let this thing last me for some years here.
