So basically I'm lost, spoiled, or just OCD.
I have 2012 MBA 13" i7/8/256GB. I can sell it today for $1500 ([I already have a buyer for this amount). I can add $230 (including taxes + educational discount) and get the 13" base rMBP.
Then, my consciousness tells me that I'm not rational in my decision, and it's a complete waste of money. BUT, after playing with the 15" rMBP, I just couldn't look at my MBA the same as before (And yes, I have the crappy LG panel, but I made it better with a color profile). The only thing that held me off the 15" is the price, but right now the 13" is quite affordable.
Anyway, here is my exchange from this trade-off
Gain:
-Better display
Lose:
- Processor (i7 to i5)
- SSD (256GB to 128GB). I'm fine with 128GB.
- $230 (Technically $530 because I lost money on the MBA)
- Slightly heavier laptop
If I'd sell my MBA next year, I would probably, if I would be lucky, get $950-1000 for it. No one knows what would be the price of the 2013 Retina MBP, but I guess it would be close to $1500-1700, so it's a "hit" of $500-700 (Not really because I use my MBA, but identify with me that a 40% hit in a year or so it's not nice).
Anyway, I don't do any gaming, development, or graphics with my computer. On the other hand, I can't stand TN panels (Since 2002 I haven't used any TN display [desktop or laptop] until I got my first MBA)
