I purchased a 17" MacBook Pro (Mid 2009) for $550 about 3 months ago.

It stopped working about 2 1/2 weeks ago, with graphical artifacts/black screens and it shuts down halfway through boot, and it will not go into the option menu.

Should I get it repairs for $250 or sell it as is?

I love the 17" screen.

It may be recalled, but if it performed to what you wanted, get it fixed.

Many of the nvidia cards during that generation were defective causing what you had. nVidia exceeded the old temperature safety buffer and decided to run them at 100-105C which in theory would give about six months of life. That became fact six months after they started doing that. I was a victim of that.
