do you think anybody would still buy these machines or should we just give them away?

When I replace a computer, if not used for parts, I give all my computers to friends (usually wifes friends) that have kids and and can't really afford a new machine.

I'd sell them, unless someone in your family doesn't have a computer.

If I was in this situation, I'd give the computer(s) to My Niece and Nephew.

I'd say it depends on the condition of the goods, but you could certainly fetch some money from them. It'd be a tough sell and for probably not a lot of money given the age and demand. It's understandable to give them away... shoot me a PM if you do ;).

Donate it to a nursing home.

I do that with my old TVs when I get new ones, assuming they're in good working order. I know it's kind of sad to say, but you really could change somebody's life for the better.

Donate them

You could certainly sell these machines on eBay or Craigslist, but I think the benefits of you donating them to any of the aforementioned worthy causes might be ultimately a more satisfying solution. Of course, in the end it's your decision!

The schools in my area don't have much of a budget for computers, so I give old machines to a local school.

If you can afford to give them to someone else, then do that:).
